What Kind of Koi Pond Supplies Do You Need?
One of the best enhancements to your yard landscape are koi ponds. They are quite a sight to behold and a source of enjoyment for their owners. The musical sound of running water also brings in a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere. Maintaining and keeping the beauty of a koi pond requires extra dedication.
The owners must commit to doing maintenance that will keep the pond running properly and to make sure that the healthy condition of the koi fish is uncompromised. In other words, the owners of the koi ponds must ensure that essential pond supplies are readily available!
There are different ways of adding more flavor to your pond. Some owners introduce fountains, waterfalls or other forms of water features. This enhances the over-all aesthetics of the pond and at the same time contributes to the health and harmony of the koi fish.
The relative movement of the running water from a waterfall or fountain invariably adds oxygen to the water. But making oxygen available to your koi fish is not the end of the story. You have to maintain the quality of the water in the pond and you can do this by using filters.
These filters function as sanitizers of the water by removing the unwanted pollutants, ensuring a clean and perfect habitat for your koi fish. Also, in most cases, you will have to make use of water pumps. These pumps help in removing pollutants since in a huge pond; filters may not be strong and effective enough in moving the water and totally cleaning it.
There is no doubt that koi fish require clean water. Exposing your koi fish to polluted water will have adverse consequences on its health. It is for the purpose of maintaining the best quality of water that the owner should consider introducing water features to help circulating the water, filters to clean it and a water pump to move the water around enough to clean it thoroughly.
The hobbyist must also exercise caution in adding water to the pond. When its water level recedes, you may have to add water to it. But this however will also add chlorine to the water, to the detriment of your koi fish.
As a remedy, you have to readily apply dechlorinator by adding it to the water. Dechlorinators eliminate harmful and destructive chemicals in tap water. Similarly, the owner must monitor the water's pH and Nitrate levels. He can do this by having a water test kit which he can use in tracking the quality of the water in the pond.
When the test shows that the water's pH or Nitrate level is off, you can put baking soda or even pond salt in the water as a way of regulating it. Finally, building your koi ponds under the shade of a tree is also a good option. Most owners do this since the shade of a tree provides the koi fish a cooler environment and protects them from the harmful effects of too much sun.
