Question by princess: How fast does water in a koi pond evaporate?
We have a medium sized koi pond in our backyard, and I cannot seem to figure out whether the water is leaking out somewhere or it's just evaporating.
There are some times where it stays level for a couple weeks. Sometimes, like yesterday, it goes down really fast. It's around 80 where I live.
Also, if it does evaporate, does it happen on dry days or humid days?
Would pouring water into the pond work, and what kind of water (possibly dechlorinated?) would it have to be?

I suspect the water is leaking out the back of the waterfall or being blown out by wind. Turn off the pump overnight and see if the leaking stops. If it does, you know the waterfall is the problem.
You can add up to 10% new water without dechlorination.
Water in the pond does evaporate. Usually dry days or higher winds contribute to it, but it usually is not a problem. Adding an inch or so of water a week will take care of it.
